"A series of calls that have occurred during the last several weeks have not been to the standard that we expect from our officiating crews. I believe our officiating program is the best in the country. However, there are times when these actions must be taken.", said Silve.
Here are the two scenarios / plays questioned by SEC, thus resulting to suspension of the officiating referees:
1) With Arkansas trying to hold off unbeaten Florida Saturday, a personal foul penalty was called on Razorbacks defensive lineman Malcolm Sheppard (Gators won after a touchdown).
2) The same crew made an unquestionable unsportsmanlike conduct penalty called during the Georgia-LSU contest in early October.
I think the suspension will last for just two weeks after Mike Silve revealed that Marc Cules and the other suspended refs were rescheduled from officiating an Oct. 31 game to a game on Nov. 14.
